Cross-Protocol Performance Investigation between HTTP/3 and HTTP/2: An Experiment with Adaptive Streaming

受賞本文写真Chanhさん
The HTTP/3 promises important enhancements for network and web applications thanks to the novel transport QUIC in replacement of the traditional TCP used by the successor HTTP/2. Nevertheless, as the QUIC protocol actually runs atop UDP, it is often blocked due to security risks, causing the HTTP/3 unavailable. Thus, a service should be provided by both HTTP/3 and HTTP/2. This raises the need for cross-protocol performance investigation between HTTP/3 and HTTP/2 when their traffics compete on the fly. In this work, an experiment with adaptive streaming is conducted to provide such an investigation.

In this research, we have found that the HTTP/3 protocol can consume 欧洲杯足彩app下载_欧洲杯下注平台-【直播*网站】 bandwidth than the HTTP/2 protocol. This causes unfairness in bandwidth consumption when 2 types of protocols compete with each other and affects the experience of internet users.

Based on the findings in this research, future research can focus on balancing the bandwidth consumption between HTTP/3 and HTTP/2, therefore improving the experience of the internet users.
