SIT contribution to SDG3# and #6 in Africa.

Prof Izabela  Rzeznicka gave an online lecture to high school students in Botswana, Selibe-Phikwe Senior Secondary School.

The online lecture was part of the outreach for the JST AJ-CORE (Africa-Japan Collaborative Research Project), a Japan-Africa multilateral collaborative research program between Botswana-Japan and South Africa.

"Prof. Izabela Irena Rzeznicka (PI-JAPAN) gave a fascinating exploration into the cutting-edge field of smartphone analytics in an era where cell phones have extended into every aspect of our everyday lives. Prof. Izabela revealed the potential of these pervasive gadgets to revolutionize both environmental monitoring and medical diagnostics with skill and zeal. Prof. Izabela skilfully negotiated the nexus of technology, science, and practical applications throughout the online presentation. Students were taken on a journey through the remarkable capabilities of smartphones, transforming them into powerful tools for data collection and analysis. The lecture's highlight was the discussion on environmental applications. Prof. Izabela provided an example of how smartphone sensors, including cameras, accelerometers, and GPS, can be used as dynamic tools to collect information on environmental factors like noise pollution and air quality as well as biological observations. These tools not only enable users to participate in the collection of environmental data in real time, but they also provide new opportunities for academics to gather extensive datasets."
