The UniKL JUP (UniKL Japan Universities Programme) is a program for students who have completed 11 years of primary and secondary education in Malaysia and have studied Japanese language and basic science and engineering education locally for three years, before transferring to a Japanese university for two years until graduation.

On Sunday 18 June, a university information session was held at UniKL (University of Kuala Lumpur), which is in charge of local education in Malaysia, for 110 local second-year undergraduates and 103 local first-year undergraduates, with nine universities in Japan, including our university, participating in the session. Eleven universities also participated in online information sessions.

As SIT is the university that organized this program, many Malaysian students received an explanation from us and we hope that many of them will enroll in SIT next April.

About the UniKL JUP program:

The program originated from the Malaysian Higher Education Loan Fund Project (HELP), which was initiated by the Malaysian Government as a yen loan project and has evolved into its current form. It is the oldest of SIT's inbound programs and has been running since 1995.

Students who have completed 11 years of primary and secondary education in Malaysia and wish to study in a Japanese science and engineering department are selected to undertake three years of local preparatory education in Malaysia in the areas of Japanese language and basic science and engineering. They then take the Japanese university transfer examinations, transfer to the third year of university, study for two years, and graduate. Students who transfer under this '3+2 Twinning' program are expected to become bridges between Japan and Malaysia in the future.
