University-affiliated science and technology school set to boost emphasis on STEAM subjects

At a meeting of the Board of Directors held on December 9, the Shibaura Institute of Technology (location: Koto-ku, Tokyo; Chairman of the Board of Directors: Takeo Suzumi) resolved to appoint current Vice Principal Motoya Sato as Principal of Shibaura Institute of Technology Junior and Senior High School, effective April 1, 2021, for a three-year term expiring March 2024.

Motoya Sato has worked at Shibaura Institute of Technology Kashiwa Junior and Senior High School for 26 years. During this time, he has overseen the introduction of co-education in the high school (in 1990) and the establishment of the junior high school (in 1999). Following a year of negotiations between the two combined junior and senior high schools (at Shibaura Institute of Technology Junior and Senior High School and Shibaura Institute of Technology Kashiwa Junior and Senior High School), he was appointed Assistant to the Vice Principal and Head of Careers for the university-affiliated school. His main duties involved engaging in PR and external liaison activities, enhancing the careers guidance program, and setting up a comprehensive careers guidance system. He aims to build on existing traditions and achievements and use the introduction of co-education in the junior high school as an opportunity to boost educational standards across the board and present the school’s unique offerings with greater clarity of vision.Chairman (2017) and Vice Chairman (2011–2013) of the Japan Society of Thermophysical Properties, Director (General Affairs, Kanto branch) of the Heat Transfer Society of Japan (2006–2008)
