A Global Project Based Learning (gPBL) class, organized by Professor Shinya Inazumi (Department of Civil Engineering), was held online from August 23 to August 31, 2021.

The Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) is actively developing the ‘gPBL’ as an active learning component of its educational collaboration with partner universities, companies, and governmental agencies in Japan and overseas. This time, a total of 120 civil engineering students participated, including 49 students from the Shibaura Institute of Technology, mainly from the Department of Civil Engineering, one from Chuo University in Japan, 29 from Kasetsart University, 15 from the Asian Institute of Technology, 20 from the Suranaree University of Technology in Thailand, and six from the National University of Civil Engineering in Vietnam.

This year’s theme was "The role of civil engineers during/after the COVID-19 pandemic". Ten groups were formed with a mixture of students from Japan and overseas, and through discussions, the students were able to interact with each other and better understand the differences between their own opinions and background and those of students from other countries.
