Visit of Prof. Dr. Janusz S. Szmyd of AGH UST at SIT
2022/07/21
- Global
Prof. Janusz S. Szmyd, the Rector's Representative for Cooperation with Japan of AGH University of
Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland, and the president of Eurotherm Committee, once again visited our university.
During his stay at SIT, Prof. Dr. Janusz S. Szmyd gave a lecture titled Development of High-Efficiency Technologies for Reinforcing Energy Security.
The lecture began with a description of Poland's location, prominent personalities, and exchange programs. In this presentation, the subjects of discussion were primary energy consumption and energy resources. Three international projects on the global scale were also presented, i.e., ITER, Hydrates, and DESERTEC, these projects demonstrate new scientific and technical possibilities, though it is unlikely that commercialization would prove feasible before 2050. Research should thus, be focused on raising energy efficiency. The development of high-efficiency technologies that reinforce energy security was presented, with it being assumed that these new high-efficiency technologies are capable of being applied globally soon.
The AGH UST is our strategic partner. The following facts confirm our fruitful cooperation so far:
■The AGH UST and the Faculty of Energy and Fuels have been cooperating with the Shibaura Institute of Technology since 2004.
■In 2012, the Sandwich program was launched, which allows undergraduate students to participate in research trips. To promote education and research in energy and environmental engineering in collaboration with AGH University of Science and Technology in Poland, to foster global science and engineering human resources who can solve global-scale issues related to energy and the environment in collaboration with engineers and researchers in other countries,
students can take both the AGH University of Science and the Shibaura Institute of Technology master's degrees.(EEE Program)
■ In March 2015, Shibaura Institute of Technology held a ceremony to award honorary doctoral degrees to Professor Tadeusz Slomka (Rector of the Academy of Sciences and Technology (AGH) of Poland) and Professor Janusz Stanislaw Szmyd, . Both have made significant contributions to the exchange between the two universities.
■In 2017, the honorary title (AGH University of Science and Technology Honorary Exchange Ambassadors) was granted to Chairman of the Board of Directors, Hisaya Igarashi, and Prof. Akito Takasaki as a means of expressing gratitude for the mutual efforts given in exchange between AGH University of Science and Technology and Shibaura Institute of Technology.
