Self-organizing information networks that use peer-to-peer communication
We conduct research into building virtual networks that realize communications for new purposes by using peer-to-peer communication, which directly connects user terminals by skipping base and other stations. Specifically, we are working on a system with wireless communication between vehicles (vehicle-to-vehicle communication) and driving control, with the aim to alleviate traffic jams, in addition to peer-to-peer multicast, which reduces the burdens on the server by relaying video data between viewers when sports and other live events are distributed on the internet.

It is believed that traffic jams that naturally occur on expressways can be resolved much earlier if the nearby vehicles inform each other about the traffic situation through vehicle-to-vehicle communication.
RESEARCH THEMES
- Research on a system to help alleviate traffic jams in sagged sections of expressways through vehicle-to-vehicle communication and driving control
- Research on a method to estimate the indoor position of users without depending on Global Positioning System or WiFi and a way to record evacuation paths in case of a disaster
- Research on optimal selection of relay peers in peer-to-peer multicast, which considers geographical information and the quality of communication lines
