Understanding the relationships between environmental factors and diseases
All lifeforms including humans exist in environments and cannot escape their effects. If the various environmental factors contained in the atmosphere, water, ultraviolet rays, and food become toxic, they will have a negative impact on humanity and life.Environmental factors exist in everything ― the air we breathe, sunlight (ultraviolet rays), various noises, drinking water and food. However, only a few recognized environmental factors are known to cause aging and disease. At our laboratory, we areattempting to understand the relationships between environmental factors and aging and diseases through the technology and knowledge of life sciences.

FOR SOCIETY
Environmental factors are present all around us. Understanding the accelerated aging and disease development caused by environmental factors and developing preventive and therapeutic methods will help life itself, as well as improve the quality of life.
RESEARCH THEMES
- Elucidation of the pathogenic mechanism of melanin spots, freckles, and wrinkles caused by exposure to ultraviolet rays
- Development of novel cosmetic regents and drugs to prevent skin aging
- Elucidation of the pathogenic mechanism of psoriasis of the skin
- Elucidation of the mechanisms by which heavy metals act as poisons
- Elucidation of pathogenic mechanisms of various cancers and development of novel therapeutic agents
