Opto-Sensing Laboratory
Measuring the invisible with light.
Optical fiber, widely used as a transmission medium for high-capacity and advanced communication networks, has applications beyond telecommunications. It can also be used to measure various physical quantities such as strain and temperature. Optical fiber sensors offer several advantages over conventional electrical sensors, including no need for electrical wiring and strong resistance to electromagnetic noise. In our laboratory, we conduct research and development on various types of optical fiber sensors, aiming to improve their performance and develop new functionalities.

FOR SOCIETY
Optical fiber sensors are expected to be used as tools for monitoring social infrastructure. In our laboratory, we focus on the development of distributed optical fiber sensors that can continuously measure strain and temperature at any point along a long optical fiber. Through this work, we aim to contribute to a safe and secure society.
RESEARCH THEMES
- Improving the performance of distributed optical fiber sensors based on Brillouin scattering
- Developing sensing technologies using plastic optical fibers
- Simultaneous measurement of multiple physical quantities and signal processing in optical fiber sensors
