(Laboratory Internship Program)

  • Participants can pursue their research topics in a Japanese-style laboratory and a culturally diverse, vibrant academic/research environment.
    For undergraduate-level students, the program allows them to gain hands-on experience and practice research skills at an early stage of higher education.
    For graduate-level students, the program can be used as a part of the thesis work.

Flexible program duration choice (min. 1 month - max. 1 year)

Requirements

The applicant must :

      • Be Bachelor 3rd year* or higher level who has basic/good knowledge to conduct research work independently.
      • Complete this program at SIT and return to his/her home university before graduating.
      • Have a good command of English* (CEFR B2 equivalent or higher).
      • Be physically and mentally healthy. (Health checkup and health certificate will be required after you accepted by SIT officially)
      • Comply with the Japanese Export Control Legal Framework.

* When the applicant is a third-year university student at the start of the program, he/she is eligible to apply for our program.
* CEFR B2 is equivalent to TOEIC 785-940, IELTS 5.5-6.5, TOEFL iBT 72-94, TOEFL ITP Level 1 & 2 543-626, Cambridge English FCE 160-179, Cambridge English CAE 160-179, and Cambridge English (CPE) 162-179 (These scores may change from time to time)
* Native English speakers and English-based degree students do not need to submit an English proficiency score.

Find the Laboratory

There are two ways to find the laboratory:

You may refer to the “Designated Research Project” first, in which the professor has limited conditions for accepting students.
If you don't have your own research topic and meet the requirements, there is a good chance that they will be accepted.

If you don’t find the "Designated Research Projects" that suits you, you may refer to the "SIT Laboratory list" to find the laboratory you are interested in.

How to Apply

 ?NOTES
      • Decide your desired entry period with your home university (When you want to start and how long you want to study at SIT)
      • Please submit your application follow the "Application Period" below
      • The start date should be on the Monday (We may adjust your desired start date)
      • Please avoid starting your program during the following holiday seasons.
* Late December to early January (approximately 10 days): New Year Holiday
* Late April to May 7: Special holiday in Japan (Golden Week)
* Mid-August (approximately 2 weeks): Summer holiday
